Ingredients

✓ 2 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
✓ 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
✓ 1/4 to 1/2 cup milk or cream (warmed)
✓ 1/2 teaspoon salt
✓ 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
✓ 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
✓ 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
✓ 1 to 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
✓ 1 to 2 cloves roasted garlic, minced
✓ 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
✓ 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
✓ 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
✓ 1/4 cup shredded cheddar or parmesan cheese

Instructions

✓ Peel and cut the sweet potatoes into chunks.

✓ Boil, steam, or bake the sweet potatoes until tender.

✓ Let the butter soften at room temperature.

✓ Mash the cooked sweet potatoes with a potato masher or fork. Add the softened butter and mix well.

✓ Gradually add milk or cream (warmed) and continue to mash until smooth.

✓ Add salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, smoked paprika, maple syrup, garlic, thyme, chili powder, and cumin; taste and adjust seasonings as needed.

✓ If desired, top with shredded cheese.

Notes

For a vegan version, use coconut milk and olive oil instead of butter and cream.
